MY HERO – THOMAS VOECKLER

Thomas Voeckler is a French road racing cyclist who rides for Team Europcar. Being professional since 2001, he is extremely popular among his fans.

He is a petite and pale complexioned 33 year old sportsman, who looks much younger than his age and has a typical habit of sticking his tongue out while racing. His significant victory came in 2003 where he performed well in Tour de Luxembourg. In 2004, after seizing the French championship, the much underestimated Voeckler rose to international prominence and entered the 2004 Tour de France.

Thomas Voeckler performed extremely well there and gained all the attention of the media. In 2005, he rode many races, and won the prestigious Four Days of Dunkirk. The year 2006 was a significant year for him where he performed as well as won many championships like Vuelta al País Vasco, Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, Paris–Bourges to name a few. In 2007 he showed a stunning win at Grand-Prix de Plouay Ouest-France and in 2008, Voeckler managed to win the Circuit de la Sarthe. The first stage win in Tour de France in 2009 was another feather in his cap.

Thomas Voeckler started a little slow in 2010 but managed to perform well in 2010 Tour de France, where he had to face some unsuccessful attacks. 2011 happens to be the most successful year for Voeckler. Having recorded 8 spring victories before Tour de France, he performed well in Paris-Nice. He also wonTour du Haut Var as well as the Four days of Dunkirk.

In spite some major injuries, he has never given up. He is still doing very well in 2012 with Tour of Flanders and will continue. With a salary of 420000 Euros per year, he is the second highest paid cyclist from France, and the most talented sportsman that France has ever produced.
